A Note From Us: Sporting Lagos x Aarhus Fremad

By Sporting Lagos

January 30th 2026, 8:00:00 am

In 2023, we announced an ownership stake in Aarhus Fremad with a mission to create a trusted pathway for our best talent from Nigeria to Europe. Two years later, the pathway is still active, and we’ve decided to conclude our ownership chapter while continuing the relationship.

Over this time, we’ve built strong relationships across the football world through transfers, trials, and partnerships. What started as a single pathway has grown into multiple routes for our players, giving us greater flexibility and reach.

Along the way, we’ve also learned something important: the greatest value and impact sit at the start of the journey, in the talent pipeline in Nigeria. In the past two years, two of our players represented Nigeria at the FIFA U-20 World Cup. In 2025 alone, Mukhtar Adamu joined Odds BK, where he went on to win Young Player of the Year, and we completed four additional international transfers.

With that clarity, we are now focusing our energy where we can make the biggest impact: finding and developing the best talent in Nigeria.

We’ve genuinely enjoyed this partnership. From day one, Lars and the leadership team have been thoughtful, open, and deeply collaborative. Beyond the football, we’ve loved the warmth of the Aarhus community and the connection with the fans. It’s been special to see Sporting Lagos welcomed so openly, and to feel that sense of shared purpose on and off the pitch.

We’re also glad that this partnership has been meaningful for Aarhus. When we first arrived, the club had been in the third division for 15 years. Just two seasons later, the team earned promotion to the second division. We’re proud of what the players, staff, and wider club achieved during this period, and grateful to have been part of that journey.

This partnership created real opportunities for players, meaningful exchange between clubs, and lasting relationships that go beyond any single season or structure. Most of all, it brought together people who care deeply about the game and the future of young players.

Thank you to everyone who believed in this journey and helped make it possible. The best part is still ahead.
