At Sporting Lagos, we believe in building on trust — trust in our people, our process, and our vision. That’s why we’re proud to announce that Shola Adegun has been promoted to head coach of the senior team.

Shola joined Sporting Lagos as the head coach of our Academy in September 2023. Ever since, he’s helped nurture our youth talent, and brought success to the Club, reaching the TCC Cup Final earlier this year and winning the Gothia Puma Trophy in Sweden in brilliant fashion.
Now, as we begin our journey back to the NPFL, we’re placing our trust in Shola to lead the senior team with the same vision and brilliance.
Shola’s coaching philosophy is aligned with Sporting Lagos in that it’s rooted in playing entertaining football to delight our fans and winning games. When asked how he plans to handle the jump to senior football, he said:
“Football is football, no matter the level. Coaching youth players has always been my passion because they’re more teachable, but the principles don’t change. This is about building a team, and I’m ready for that.”
While this is his first senior team role, we believe his fresh perspective makes him the right leader to drive Sporting Lagos forward.
A word from the Governing Council
“Shola is more than a coach — he’s a teacher, a builder, and someone who truly understands what this Club is about. We’ve seen what he can do with young players, and we’re confident he’ll bring that same energy and vision to the senior team.”
What’s Next for the Academy?
Coach Shola will be assisted by Buter Bem for first-team duties, while Coach Caleb will oversee day-to-day operations at the Academy under Coach Shola’s continued leadership.
Coach Shola’s first game will be against Solution FC on Monday 16th December, 2024 — our first game back in the NNL.
