As we approach the second half of the 2024/25 NNL season, Sporting Lagos is delighted to announce the signing of nine new players to strengthen the squad ahead of the crucial run-in.
These additions will reinforce key areas of the team as we push for a place in the NPFL promotion playoffs.
Adding Strength at the Back
Babatunde Akomolede and Aliu Adedayo join to solidify the defence.
Babatunde Akomolede is a versatile, left-footed defender, comfortable both at centre-back and left-back. He's well known for his long throws, which played a key role in helping us win the Gothia Puma trophy when he was on loan for us last season. He joins us on loan until the end of the season.
Adedayo Aliu joins from Giant Brillars to strengthen the right side of our defence. Energetic and reliable, Adedayo brings bite to our backline.
Reinforcing the Midfield
Gavi Thompson, Akinola Damilola, Joseph Nanjul, and Aondona Adeede join the midfield ranks.
Gavi is a box-to-box midfielder who brings energy and steel. His work rate and ability to see through balls nobody else does will be key in attacking transitions. You can watch his compilation here.
Joseph Nanjul is a creative midfielder who excels at controlling the tempo and unlocking defences with his vision and passing. He joins us on loan until the end of the season.
Aondona Adeede offers flexibility, capable of operating as a defensive midfielder or central midfielder. His physicality and technical ability make him a valuable option. Oh, and when he sets up the ball for a free kick, get ready to change the scoreboard.
Firepower Up Front
Saheed Abolade, Aliyu Baba, Akinola Damilola and Peter Orshi lead the new attacking reinforcements.
Saheed Abolade is a forward with a sharp eye for goal. His instinctive finishing and movement inside the box will be key as we search for crucial goals. He joins us on loan until the end of the season.
Aliyu Baba brings pace and agility to the attack. His ability to run in behind and create openings gives us an extra dimension going forward.
Akinola Damilola adds pace and flair on the wings. Direct and confident on the ball, he will be looking to create and finish chances. He joins us on loan until the end of the season.
Peter Orshi brings height, physicality and movement. He joins us on loan until the end of the season.
Speaking on the signings, Head of Recruitment Ayobami Animashaun, said:

The new signings are already integrating into the squad and will be available for selection from Sunday as we continue to push for promotion with a game against Rovers.
