We return to action today for one of the most anticipated fixtures of the season as we host Akwa United at Onikan Stadium in a match with major implications for the league table.
The State of the Group

After four matchdays, the group could not be tighter. Positions one through six are all level on seven points, separated only by goal difference. We sit third at the moment, and a win today could reshape the top of the table.
With only the group winner earning automatic promotion to the NPFL this season, every match carries added weight, and a home fixture like this one is crucial.
A Familiar Figure Returns

Today also marks the return of Coach Paul, who previously guided us to promotion into the NPFL. Now with Akwa United, he arrives with an understanding of our environment and the challenge of playing at Onikan.
His presence adds an extra competitive edge to an already important match.
Opposition Analysis

Akwa United arrive with the same record as us:
2 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss, and also sitting on seven points.
The last time we faced them in Lagos was during our NPFL season — a dramatic midweek encounter where we came from behind to win 2–1. Tochukwu Micheal came off the bench to score a free kick and the eventual winner in one of our most memorable turnarounds.
Both sides know how tight the promotion race is, and both know exactly what three points today could mean.
Team News

Shola, Chidera and Odinaka are still out.
The rest of the squad is fit and available for selection.
Coach Jeff Speaks

On how he’s feeling ahead of the match:
Like every other game, I feel confident and positive. I’m looking forward to it. It should be a tough match, and a good one. Akwa, Coach Paul, the history — all of that adds something extra. It should spice things up, so we’ll see.
On facing Coach Paul:
We’re good friends. He was the head coach when I joined Sporting, and we’ve stayed close since then. We respect each other and both of us know we want to win and get promoted.
On injuries and fitness:
Shola, Chidera and Odinaka are still out, but there are no new injury concerns. The main thing is managing the fatigue from our last trip. We’ll trust everyone in the squad. That’s why we recruited well. Everyone has a role to play.
On squad rotation and upcoming fixtures:
We travel to face Abakaliki again this Saturday so everyone needs to step up and contribute.
What to Expect

We will look to assert ourselves early, control the tempo, and play with the proactive, front-foot style we’ve committed to this season. With the entire top half of the group level on points, today’s match is an opportunity we cannot overlook.
